About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
Oh boy. Gonna go through this real quick as possible so as not to bore you all with the massive construction details. The dress was the easiest part. Modified simplicity pattern, which was made to have a bias-cut so as to flow correctly. The armor was the longest part, took at least 100 hours, if not more. Top and bottom of leg armor was fiberglass, which is patterned out from poster-board, which took a crapload of time. To get the straight edge, I used a belt sander on the bottoms, and to get the curves edges, I used a drum sander on the tops. The boots I made from an old pair of rollerblades that I pulled the wheels and bar they were attached to from the bottom. I cut them down to the right length with a sawsall, cut the tongues on the inside out of them, and then epoxied them to the outside of the skate. The skate had line indentations in them, so I filled them in with bondo and sanded down. The arm, knees, and gauntlet armor was made from paperclay. I then painted them all (including the tongue of the boots) with a primer, then suede finish, then a valspar metallic, then a matte finish. The knee pads are attached to leather that I cut and added buckles to. The belt was purchased and attached to the dress by a super-secret method! ;3 (cause she has no belt loops to hold it on, wtf?!) The milk glass is a frappaccino glass! For the wings, I followed JiaJem's tutorial and altered it, b/c Nanael has the most ridiculous wings! I don't even want to get into the weight distribution issues of them! Lastly, I styled the wig, with a curling iron, hairspay, and made the pink barret out of sculpty ;3 This is was so much work. I hope I'm not forgetting anything and that I didn't bor you all! Super-special thanks to ZTranquilty for my sword b/c I ran out of time to make one! I did have to fix it though, since UPS broke it in the mail >( P.S. It's accurate underneath as well! Oh, I almost forgot, actually! I made the leg wrap out of a piece of plastic that I primed and painted, and the leg leather pieces were made from leather that I cut into strips and added buckles to. I think that is all now. I did so much on this thing! :D
- Personal Thoughts:
- I don't even know what to say. It's finally done! I'm sooo proud of it! Over 100 hours on the armor alone! I guess the other issue is, now that I've worn it, is that this is a very stationary costume. Hard to move in! It's also hard to stay in character without looking too sleazy. There needs to be a mixture of Moe and sexy for Nanael, and I hope I've found it!
