About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
I made the gown as well as all the 18th Century underpinnings. There's a chemise, corset, pocket hoops, and a quilted petticoat underneath the visible petticoat and gown. The dress was made from the JP Ryan Robe a l'Anglaise pattern and is drawn up polanaise style in the back. More detailed construction notes later.
- Personal Thoughts:
- So glad that I managed to wear this at Katsucon and get some nice photos of it!
This was the most frustrating costume I have worked on in a long time. :-/ I actually bought the fabric and historic patterns and started this back in 2010, figuring it would be a good way to reuse my Ekaterina underpinnings. But it got shelved when it seemed like I would need to make a new corset due to the straps showing. I finally got the inspiration to work on it again about a month before Katsucon and it was one step forwards, two steps back most of the time. It felt like every time I fixed something or solved an issue on the costume, something else broke or came up! The worst was wasting a week's worth of sewing time making a set of strapless stays that turned out to be useless in the end since they caused lumpiness above the neckline. x_x With all the problems, I only got the costume about 90-95% finished for Katsucon; the missing details were added for Anime Boston.

- Styling Notes
- I just trimmed the bangs on this and added a matching Curly Ponytail Clip on top. The blue ribbon is simply pinned in place around the clip.
