About this Costume
Construction Details:
First of three different east Asian Hetalia cosplays I plan on doing.

Hong Kong was relatively simple. All of the fabrics are cottons and/or twills. The pants are a modified pajamas bottom pattern. I added box pleats (hidden by the top), a waist band, and leg bands. It's made of black twill and because of all the pleats is very poofy.

The top is made completely of sateen cotton. There was two layers of red sateen cotton cut from a modified girls Chinese style jacket pattern. All of the black bias tape is handmade from black sateen cotton. The frog closures were taken apart, made straight, and hand sewn. The sash is simply made with straight stitches from golden yellow stretch poplin.

The leg warmers were interesting. They were free drafted; I cut white knit cotton in half, pinned one half to my leg, cut, and used it as a template for the other half. They aren't perfect but then I add the twill tape ties and they tend to hide all the imperfections. I added the ties because I used to watch a lot of kung fu movies as a kid and they always had ties on their legs/pants/leg warmers.

Shoes were purchased online, and the Hong Kong flag was found on eBay.
