Completed May 2010 Xellos is my second favorite character in the series, right behind Lina Inverse, and I've already done his silly drag outfit so it seemed pretty logical to make his priest robes, as that is his regular attire. Plus, it's easy and comfy, and I always love costumes that give me a break from stress and discomfort. It's one of those things I can sew in my sleep, I'm so accustomed to making simple things like pants, tops, and capes by now.
I picked out some nice soft black suiting fabric for the pants, mantle and cape. The cape and the mantle are both lined appropriately in blue cotton, the mantle portion features yellow cotton fabric that was appliqued on, sewn on red trim for the trimmings, and 17 embroidered rectangles that were stitched on by machine. The clasp is made out of thick craft foam, I used a textured stone spray paint to give it some extra detail - I casted the three resin gems myself using a paint try as a mold, which yielded very nice results! I used cream colored 2-way stretch cotton knit for the undershirt, which was patterned like a turtleneck with a few modifications to match the 'tucked' look going on with how Xellos's shirt - there's also a separate sash piece that goes over the waist portion. All edges were serged for the pieces that weren't lined. One of my favorite aspects is kinda silly, I used pink thread to serge the seams on the inside of the pants, I consider it a secret fabulous aspect to the costume, lol. The ankle pieces were also made out of this same knit fabric and layered to achieve the right look. I really like that this character has a bag as part of the costume, it makes life so much easier at a con to have such ample storage space for things like money/cards/badge/camera/snacks/anything else I might want to have on me. I bought the pair of blue gloves, one less thing to sew. The boots were a very lucky find and I love them! They look so much like his boots! I plan on making the staff, I won't have it with me when I debut this costume as I am flying out of state and wouldn't have been able to take it, anyhow, and would rather not pay to have it shipped as that can be pretty expensive. - Personal Thoughts:
- This costume needs a few tweaks and a priest's staff before it gets more pics taken of it!
