About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
All the green and brown pieces are real suede. The cream dress and boot ruffles are this drapery fabric in the upholstery section at JoAnn. The black belt pieces are black vinyl with white hand-made bias tape along the edges. All bias corners have mitered edges~ The bootcovers were made from scratch, which also lace-up in the back.
There are 117 eyelets in this entire project. We counted. Lol.
For the wings, I created an electrical conduit base, which I heat-formed and connected, covered in chicken wire, duck tape, and batting. I then covered them in feathers, boas, and gems I made from extruded polystyrene (insulation foam), covered in gesso, and painted. The wings form to a "T" at the base, which goes into a flagpole which is mounted to a piece of sintra inside of a corset underneath the green corset, haha.
The pauldrons are made from EPS as well, hollowed out, then covered in Super Glaze. I added the details on top of them. They snap onto the sleeves underneath. - Personal Thoughts:
- I will never in my life make a contest costume a week prior to the convention again. It was incredibly stressful and almost not worth it. Luckily everything came together (for the most part) and it was wearable. I still have parts I haven't finished (small things) and plan to remake 50% of it for NYAF. So look for photos following that con, as I'm hoping it will look MUCH better! :D
A big thanks to Megan and Meru for helping support me emotionally throughout this process. Without them, I wouldn't have finished it!
