Construction Details:

Even though Falsetto's outfit looks like one piece, I decided to make separate shorts because it would be easier to make and be able to go to the bathroom. There are three different shades of blue in the costume. The navy is a wool polyester blend (red tag section of Joann, $3.50/yard, great find), the medium blue is sateen, and the light blue is either kona cotton or polyester suiting. The shorts are made exactly to a pattern, while the top combines four patterns - the long tails, bodice, button top, and sleeves. All the white is done with either 1/4" bias tape or white poplin. There is so much satin stitching on this costume I thought I was going to lose my mind. The buttons on the front are functional, and the top simply pulls over my head. It's also serged and lined from the waist down, with the lining sewn in place by hand with a blind stitch.

The charms on the bottom and my belt star are sculpy. I made my belt from scratch, satin stitching the lines, painting the fleurs, and adding the white bias tape. The wig is the one my brother used for Locke, a Scruffy in 613. My "socks" are footless tights, cut into long leggings and wore upside down. I made the gloves using that Vogue pattern out of white spandex. They're a little too tight, and after my craftsmanship judging I cut them off at the wrist so I could use my hands freely (i.e. use the bathroom and use my iPhone). The cut is covered anyways by my arm guards, made with the same fabrics. The gold parts are craft foam. My shoes started as white tennis shoes from Walmart, covered permanently with lined boot covers. My bow snaps on for easy costume packing.

How I made Jazz is it's own monster. So much bias tape. So many mitered corners. Thanks to Lo for letting me use her embroidery machine for some of the details on it :)

Personal Thoughts:

This costume was so much work. The only costume I've ever done up to this point with more work than this was my brother's Jazz, which I was working on at the same time. These two costumes took up all my free time three weeks before Anime Boston. However, they are now the costumes I am most proud of.
