About this Costume
Construction Details:
Modified the top from a strapless dress pattern, which mostly worked out (it did fall down often, though). The bottom I patterned myself, and I'm pretty pleased with it. The collar was made using craftfoam sandwiched between metallic pleather, and I added a fire design to make it a bit more interesting. Binkx helped me knock that out in an evening. The bit below my chest was thrown together last, and I used it as a pattern to make Ashley's pin for Mai's skirt, so they'd match. I'm really pleased with how the wig looked (I used my own hair and eyeshadow to make the hairline) and I like the effects of the makeup and contacts. The shoes (though not accurate) were a freak find online and I had to have them. They're "modified" (I cut off the parts I didn't want) from a pair of metallic boots that had beading and an upturned toe. I just had to have them.
Personal Thoughts:
So this happened kind of impulsively. I'd come up with a skit for Ohayo that would require The Beach costumes, and so they happened. Ashley and Hilary were kind enough to go along with me and make the matching Mai and Ty Lee costumes, respectively.
