About this Costume
Construction Details:
Ahhh, this was such a nice costume to make! A lot of fun to wear, too! My only complaint would be the shoes, but I can replace those in the future! So! How did I make this, you ask? Quite simple, really! The obi was a total cheat. I was at AX in L.A., and a dear friend (hugs to Master Zero!) took me to Little Tokyo, where a shop sold yukata and easy-obies. Needless to say- she saw me comin'. I did, however, make the obi-jime and red wrap around the top of the obi. For the wrap, I just used some stretchy red fabric I had handy, and sewed it together real quick, tied it above the obi, and tucked in the ends. The obi-jime, I bought a great length of purple cord, two purple tassels, and some red beads. I glued the beads and tassels to the ends, pre-tied the knot, and then looped it over the obi as I wore it! I put a great deal of work into the kimono, and my heart sings with joy whenever I look at it. This kimono is made of a heavy-weight cotton purple fabric, with a nylon lining. It's collar is 2-fold, with the bottom layer being darker, and sewn so that it will disappear beneath the top one. Also, on the inner-lining, the sleeves are sewn smaller, so they can act as pockets, and my items are easier to access. But! The kimono is accurate to design! The flowers are all hand-painted, by me! It was a very long and arduous process, and the results are fantastic! I spent days painting and watching Sakura Wars for references! The final major piece is actually my Azumi Kiribayashi naginata. However! I did paint the naginata to look like Sumire's from the TV series! Final bits include my wig, a white headband, white thigh-highs, a ribbon collar, and red shoes.
