Construction Details:

This costume is pretty similar in construction to the Twelve Kingdoms nyosen uniform I made a few years ago. Two kimono style tops, two skirts, a sash that closes with snaps and hooks and eyes in the back, and a front panel that hangs from a belt hidden under the sash.

The inner layer is plain white and the outer layer is white on white cherry blossom brocade. I actually wanted a pure white Chinese brocade with some colored designs but after a lot of searching, it just didn't seem to exist. :-/ So, I gave up and used white on white. The sash and lavender panel are also brocades. I might go back and add something to the panel since it seems too plain right now.

I also would have liked to have Youko's sword but I couldn't find a prop one that was close enough in shape to modify. :-/ Maybe, for a future con...

This costume is based on the rather vague cover illustration from the Twelve Kingdoms anime guide.

Personal Thoughts:

I've been meaning to do this costume for years. ^_^; I love the Twelve Kingdoms and although Youko is one of my favorite characters from the series, I didn't like any of her anime outfits that much. So, that's why I ended up doing this really obscure white outfit. ^_^;;

And I thought it was kind of funny how whenever I mentioned to friends in person that I was working on a Youko costume, they would always think of Yoko from Gurren Lagann since the names sound similar when prounouced. :-P

Styling Notes

The only thing I did to the wig was cut bangs into it.
