Construction Details:

Oh man, where to start? I made this costume with the help of my good friend Patrick D. The head structure is made of plastic needlepointing sheets (or whatever you call 'em) held together by zip-ties with some cotton stuffing for shape, some wooden paint-stirrers for support, and fabric on the outside....(Read More) All the facial features are made with wonderflex. For the orange fun-fur I had to go to New York and search through all sorts of shops until I got lucky and found a place that had ordered some special for some company to make a teddy-bear for a television commercial, LOL. The mouth is functional, and actually that's how I see when I walk (through the sheer black fabric), and I can close it with some wires that feed into the jumpsuit and out a hole by my hand. The jumpsuit is based on a McCalls pattern, but with a sort of bussle for padding and some of it is lined with drapery lining fabric for structural support. The shoes are a combination of the foot-covers from aforementioned pattern and some slippers I found at the mall. All in all this took me off and on about 2 months to complete, with a couple of weeks off in the middle and a good mostly solid 2 week push toward the end. If I had to guess in terms of hours I'd say maybe somewhere around 200, but I'm bad at figuring that sort of thing. Easily the biggest cosplay undertaking I've ever attempted.

Personal Thoughts:

Um. Wow. I have new respect for people who cosplay mascots. My plan for how to see didn't work out incredibly well, so I really had next to no vision. As long as there is light hitting the floor, I can see well enough to move, but once it's dark I see NOTHING. Masquerade fashion show was fun...no really, it was, but finding my way off the stage was scary. I finally had to lift the head so I could see out the neckline. Also, back when I started this costume I was not expecting it to be 70 degrees the first weekend of April. All in all it was totally worth it, though. I don't know what I'm going to do with the costume from here. Maybe if some friends do a Scrapped Princess group I'll bring it out another time, but never again alone.
