About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
Cosplaying Rebecca became a sort of dream costume of mine when I played Resident Evil Zero back in 2007. I found Rebecca to be a really adorable character and since we have the same first name I was drawn to the character even more. I was really worried about getting the details on this costume just right (like getting appropriate material for the vest and making cargo pants) so it took me over a year and lots of requests from friends before I finally started working on this costume. (^^);;
The vest is my pride and is one of my favourite costume pieces ever. My friend Amber sent me fabric to use for it which she had used to make her friend a Rebecca costume in 2008. I was really grateful for her help. :3 I used a tank top pattern as the basis and I layered the vest with quilting batting and a lining of leftover white material from my Lisa costume. I really wanted the vest to have a thick look to it for a more authentic feel and the quilting batting was the perfect material to work with to give it a bit of oomph. My mother helped me with some of the hand sewing on the vest because I was going through a series of colds before the con and I was working on the other parts of the costume. She was a real lifesaver. (^^) I used the same off-green webbing that I had used for the belt and pouches on the vest and the vest itself stays on me using velcro that I sewed onto the straps. I used Paint Shop Pro to make the circle, cross and text which I printed out and ironed onto the back of the vest. I was really worried about messing up the transfer with the grooves in the fabric but the transfer turned out really nicely. - Personal Thoughts:
- This costume was somewhat hard to make but turned out really wonderfully and I feel genuinely happy when I'm wearing it. A lot of people were really thrilled to see someone Cosplaying Rebecca when I debuted this costume on Saturday of Youmacon 2009. I can foresee this being my new standby costume which I hope to wear at a lot of cons and events in the future. (^^)
