I'm pretty proud of this as my first cosplay. And I really want to give details as to how I made it because that's how I was able to figure it out: from other people's constructions. Starting from the top, that is my natural hair. It's just straight with straight bangs. I pulled a thin top layer, leaving some hair near the face, and just did a small top bun. Gelled down any protruding hair. I don't think I have any pictures from the back, but it's tied at the end. Put purple fabric around where I tied the top knot and the end. For the hair beads, the way I did it is NOT RECOMMENDED by me (since I lost the beads in the middle of the con ;_;). I tied the hair by my face with regular rubber bands several times. I took fake plastic pearls from the craft store (I went to AC Moore) and used a power drill to make the holes bigger. I painted the beads with a mixture of a rich violet and a pearly blue. The rubber bands were wrapped around my hair several times so it would be thick. I fitted the beads onto the rubber bands. The way that I did the necklace is NOT RECOMMENDED either, since it broke when my friend glomped me. The reason it broke is because I used fragile thread, not fishing line or something much stronger. But the beads were good. The magatama is made out of Sculpey. I spraypainted it gold to have an even coat, then used spray gloss. The pearls are unpainted and undrilled pearls on my hair. The cylinders are also from the craft store. To get the necklace to hang correctly I tied the ends to saftey pins and pinned them to my shoulders on the white kimono. For the white kimono it was an altered kimono pattern. It's sleeveless and 100% off white cotton. The jacket is altered from the same pattern and is coated cotton. The obi and bow are separate. The obi is a rectangle of cotton that was folded over thrice to make it look like it's layered. It's velcro in the back so I can take it off easily. The bow was made following a traditional obi bow tutorial. The hanging strips of ribbon were made from the same fabric and just tucked into the back of the bow. For the shoes (which you can't really see, I'm sorry D:) I got heeled flip flops from Ann Taylor and wrapped the straps with the fabric from the obi. I secured it with tacky glue. The wrist ribbons are also the obi fabric. They're secured with a hook and eye clasp instead of fumbling with trying to tie them.
