Construction Details:

This is my baby. I have been working on this costume since June of 2007 when my friends and I were first making plans to have a group. I chose to use baby silk as well as brocades instead of simpler fabrics. The only cotton appears in the lining, and each layer is lined. There are 8 layers of fabric total for this costume. The white is its own full-length dress, followed by the pink sleeve-coat, the red dress and the orange obi, and then the white shawl & waist bow. The obi also has an inner vinyl layer to keep it sturdy. I chose to go with a mixed black-blue shade for the wig to more closely fit the anime. The wig was styled and the crown pieces made by a friend of mine, with me as personal wig head. After its first wear at Sakura-Con 2008, I cleaned up the styling of the wig and finished putting the last few pieces on. My erhu was purchase it online to use as a prop. Yes, it's real; no, I can't play it--yet. All in all, this is my favorite costume and the one that I've spent the most time and money on. Over two years later I was able to finally have my dream photoshoot for this costume and those are the photos I have posted.
