I made this for my friend Kiki's birthday. Her birthday is the day before mine, and a week before AWA 2009. She was planning to cosplay Kobato but was deadly afraid of dropping her glass bottle. I was going through Kobato scans at the time and saw a handbag that she carried. I then found a pattern at the fabric store that I thought matched it close enough. Thus, this bag.
The outside is made of khaki colored twill that had been sitting in my closet for ages. The blue dove and leaves are made from fabric squares, cut, then satin stitched to the outside. I'm not used ot the satin stitch function on my machine so it took a few tries, and it still didn't come out perfect. The inside is lined with a daisy patterned blue cotton; it sports one large pocket. Pink thread was used to zig-zag stitch the pleats, handles, and the top of the bag for added color and a twist.
The satin stitching took about 3 hours total (not used to it I tell you). The rest of the bag took about 3 hours (cutting to finish). My mom - who at the very least tolerates my cosplay antics - thought this bag was extremely cute. I like that it can be used as an everyday handbag without giving away that fact that Kiki is a cosplayer.
