Construction Details:

Actually the third version of this costume, to be debuted at Otakon 2009! The costume itself is based off the illustration on the inside cover of the second DVD, and also the episode where Mikako comes to Miwako's class and gives a speech. I originally was going to use a silk fabric with a paisley design on it, but the dye didn't take too well to it, so I ended up using a beautiful white lawn with perfectly matching flowers, and the dye took perfectly! I had to of course line the dress with a white cotton, but that was alright. It still looks adorable. Unfortunately, after Otakon the dress went through a mishap with my washing machine, and all of the dye came out -- so its now white (I used dye remover to remove the splotches of color left over).

Personal Thoughts:

The first fabric I purchased for this costume was a beautiful silk, but unfortunately I ended up tie-dying it so, it was back to the drawing board! I'm glad I changed the fabric though, since the cotton lawn is so much better, and probably a lot more comfortable than the other costume would have been. This dress was so much simpler than I thought it would be, and in a way that makes me really happy. ^^ I'm sure I'll wear it a lot more than just as a costume though.
