About this Costume
Construction Details:

I made my own hoopskirt from a McCall's pattern. I used about 15 yards of steel hoop boning for the 5 hoops and it's about 4 feet wide at the bottom. I also made a petticoat with two layers of tulle to cushion the hoops.

The pink skirt is made of organza encrusted with lots of tiny silver beads and a pink lining. I opted to make it separate from the bodice so it would be easier to pack and iron the costume. The red part of the dress is silk shantung with gold holographic sequin trim along the edges. The pink drape/bow around the waist is also a separate piece that attaches with snaps in the back.

The headpiece was made with interfaced gold satin and has a piece of needlepoint canvas inside to stiffen it. There are hair combs sewn to it and little pockets in the back that I can slip the ostrich feathers into. I painted some large beads with purple nail polish for the earrings. And since I couldn't find a pair of red heels I could walk in, I got a white pair and painted them to match the dress fabric. The gloves were just bought.

Personal Thoughts:

I finally watched Ouran a few months ago and enjoyed it more than anything else I'd seen in a while. I wanted to cosplay from it but wasn't interested in the school uniforms so I went over the alternate costumes. I came to the conclusion that the ballgowns from the first Zuka Club episode would be easiest for me to pull off, considering my figure and that I already had patterns I could modify for it. Plus, I'd always wanted to make a big poofy dress. :-D

Tamaki wasn't my first choice of character but his dress was the only one I especially liked from that set. ^_^;;; I'd rather have cosplayed Kyoya but didn't like the gown he got. >_>; I'm planning to make his purple costume from the final episode sometime in the future though.
