So as I slowly became more and more obsessed with Doctor Who (first the New Series, then the Classic) I couldn't wait to do a cosplay of one of the companions. And being my favorite companion, Donna Noble was the first one I thought of. I really loved her outfit in the season finale "Journeys End", so that's what I was set on creating for the Doctor Who Gathering at Anime Central 2009. Hey, we'd be in costume anyway, so why not add some Whovian touches to the con? This is what is often referred to as a Closet Cosplay, since most of the companions wear clothes that can be bought of the rack. I bought the purple tank and the gold hoop earrings at Target and found the perfect gray overshirt/dress at Goodwill. The jean are my own and I decided that Donna might wear some One Stars to go with the Doctor's All-Stars. The jacket was the hardest, and most important piece. Since I had plenty of time to plan, I got lucky and found this jacket on eBay for a great price. It's a Wilson's Leather jacket and while not exact, it is close enough to pass (for those of you wondering, there has so far been no luck identifying the jacket as a particular brand. But us Donna cosplayers are still trying to find out!) The belt was also purchased from eBay, but isn't really the right shade of brown for my taste. Almost as important as the jacket, is of course the red hair! Thankfully, my fellow cosplayer KnitChick1979 (who can be seen as Captain Jack Harkness in the photos, which she also kindly gave to me to use here) lent me her own Donna wig since mine hadn't arrived yet. Funnily enough, it showed up the Monday after the convention was over. D'oh! But it worked out great and I can't thank her enough. We had a great time and I love all my fellow Whovian cosplayers. We've already made plans for Chicago TARDIS and Wizard World Chicago, so look for more travels in time and space coming soon to a con near you!
