When I was invited to be part of a Circus Arc cosplay group as Sebastian, I knew that I wanted to try something a little different. Sebastian doesn’t really get an outfit change when he accompanies Ciel to the circus - he simply changes out his tie for a little ribbon and dons a top hat. Instead I jazzed him up a little, while still trying to stay in character. I just love this outfit! The top hat is an actual antique hat made with real fur which gives it that delightful sheen. I opted for this small hat (rather than my larger, taller, felt top hat) because it actually fit my small head and was more in proportion with my body. It’s quite fragile, and is still in the process of deconstructing itself. XD It is trimmed with blue and black ribbons. The shirt is a nicely fitting tuxedo shirt by Zac Posen. I used to wear a men’s dress shirt with a proper collar and large cuffs that require cuff links, but it was far too large for me. I opted for a better fitting short that would look good when I took off the jacket. The ribbon tie is secured with a cameo pin. The vest is handmade from silver brocade fabric and silk by my mother and I. The tailcoat is a Ralph Lauren, yet I changed the buttons to silver, to help them stand out. The coat is actually a very dark blue instead of a black, which I think reads a little better in photos - black has a tendency to lose shape and make the wearer look like a great black blob. :P I opted for breeches instead of trousers. I wanted to show off my legs, emphasize Sebastian’s lithe form, and create an overall more attractive line. And of course, the pointe shoes. This is the circus after all, and I thought I would play to my strengths and don pointes. It felt appropriate to the character and the situation, and it would be a little something different. The shoes are Grishko “2007s”, and dyed black with fabric markers and paint. The ribbons are back ribbons from the craft store, along with some black elastic at the heel. I am a trained ballet dancer, and I dance about 7 hours a week.
