About this Costume
Construction Details:
First solo costume!! The hat. Oh, I love this hat. It was actually my first solo sewing project! I used non-pill fleece for the entire thing (oh so warm and welcome at a Feb. convention). I used a base fleece hat pattern (the website is no longer available) and then just modified it to resemble Mizune's hat. The ears are shaped with a combination of plastic boning (for structure) and wire (for angle). I freehanded patterns for the nose, eyes, and ears. I'm so happy with the way it turned out! Dress - This was actually my first garment. Perhaps a little ambitious! I used McCalls 4460 as a basis. I redrafted some pattern pieces to add the black at the top and bottom. I used Casa Collection Matte Satin for the dress, and then used twill tape to make the stripes. This was a poor choice, because twill tape doesn't have enough structure. It caused some puckering. The skirt is lined with pink matte satin because I wanted it to be exciting. Mouse Feet - made using slippers as a base. I built the shape using foam to pad out the slippers, then covered it with a grey "cuddle" fabric. They were soooo soft. I kept petting my legs! I chose Mizune because there was a huge SE gathering at Katsucon. They wanted one of each cast member, and Mizune was still open. Additionally, I love black & white costumes that use geometric patterning, they're very appealing to me. I really enjoyed making and wearing her!
