About this Costume
Construction Details:
The very first costume I ever made myself! I'm quite pleased with the final result. Base for the head was a balaclava (ski mask) with elastic sewn on to allow for jaw movement. Horns, snout, and eyebrows were cut from 1" foam and hot glued onto balaclava. Fabric was then glued over mask. Work in progress pictures can be found on my Flickr gallery and I have created a video tutorial/walkthrough based on my experiences of creating a costume and offer advice on how to create your own. You can view videos of my costumes on my YouTube account. It was a ton of fun going as Charizard; I wanted to go as something everyone would recognize but was still personal to me. My character's name is actually Kaida who is a female Charizard Pokemorph (basically an anthropomorphic Charizard hence the clothes and five fingers/toes, also known as a gijinka). Sadly however, I was unable to finish the wings in time for NDK 2007 which caused many people to be confused as to who I was cosplaying. I finished them before Halloween and debuted the full costume at A-kon 19 and NDK 2008.
