About this Costume
Construction Details:
At Anime Next I am the MC of the masquerade. I wanted wear something that would be a great stage costume. The first thing that came to mind was Minmay's concert dress from the do you remember love movie. I've wanted to cosplay that for about 10 years now. The reason for the fabric choices are stage costume so I wanted it to stand out as much as possible and reason 2 the design was so 80's!! I had to make it as fabulous as that decade was! The blue on the skirt was metallic la may the sleeves were that twinkle chiffon. My favorite part is the bubble gum pink vinyl I used for the shoes, choker and arm bands. I got the shoes first and matched the fabric to it. I found it on ebay and when I got it I was so glad that it was such a close match! Yellow jewels were glass. The wig is midnight blue that I styled and curled those classic Minmay curls (which was a pain in the butt!)on. Lastly by coincidence at ANext, cosplayer Strawberry Milk showed up in her Milia costume and her boy in Max!! *__* OMG! I had such a fangirl moment!! Also, I got to perform as Minmay to the signature song "do you remember love" for opening skit of the Masquerade! Dream come true!!! The only photos I have of this costume are the candid ones of me on stage during the masquerade. Not my ideal way to show off my costume, but the background is quite fitting and it switches it up a bit, so it's not just planned photo shoot after photo shoot. ^_^
Personal Thoughts:
Minmay is one of my all time favorite anime characters. (as anyone who knows me would agree) Her personality and facial expressions really remind me of myself. I was a big fan of the original macross series and robotech. When I saw the movie, that was it!! I had found my movie!! Pretty much "do you remember love" is Macross the tv series smooshed into a 2 hour movie, with a few changes here and there. So, you don't have to be a fan of the tv before watching it. It's animation is so beautiful for it's time. The best part IMO is how fluid they could pack the tv series into 2 hours and have it make sense. It's a classic that everyone should watch! I also loved wearing this costume and exposing the new generation of anime fans to Macross. I think that Frontier has brought Macross back, (which is cool)but it's great to go back to it's roots too! ^_^
