About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
The first version (seen in photos up to AnimeNEXT 09) is made from crepe, twill, and satin. I didn't prewash some of the fabric so the dress slowly became close to mid-thigh length LOL
The newest version (in photos from Otakon 09 onward) is longer, I prewashed all my fabric, and made from twill and heavy/dull bridal satin. The costume itself is not as light and airy as its predecessor, heavy satin is heavy, but I also put hidden pockets in the front! It worked out well because I can cram my wallet and cellphone in the pockets and not carry a bag.
My props and accessories e.g. tuning fork staff, Mieu plush, and tiara are still good to go and I will not be remaking them any time soon.
The tuning fork staff and tuning fork pendant are made from Super Sculpey with cores of foam and armature wire. The shaft of the staff is pvc pipe. I hand-made Mieu from fleece and felt (eyes and mouth). He turned out quite cute for a first plushie. I am working to devise some way to strap him onto my arm so I don't have to carry him. If I remake Mieu, I would also like to run wire through his head and ears as well as use a swivel joint in the neck, so his head will turn.
Now using a nice and more accurate wig.

- Styling Notes
- For both wigs I had to thin out the bangs to make them less stupid and puffy. Next I chopped off most of the hair in the back to reach the desired length, leaving 2 long chunks of hair in the front. I used my steamer to set the shorter hair so it would flip in the back on wig 1. Wig 2 I was able to just use my curling irons as the fiber is heat resistant.
- Wig Review
- Dyeing this wig gave me a lot of trouble. The color just did not want to stay so after 3 tries, I threw in the towel. It didn't help that a friend who cosplays Sync and I were using the same color wigs and trying to match long distance. In the end, both wigs turned out very well and matched so closely it is hard to tell.
