About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
This costume is a whole lot of pink. My most meticulous work on this costume was actually done on the undergarments. My stays and pocket hoops are both pink as well! I patterned a lot of the outfit from Janet Arnold's Patterns of Fashion I, but I also used a mix of costume and my own patterns to get the right look. The wig was originally all blonde, but I put pink sharpie into it to get that perfect mix of blonde and pink. I made the wreaths myself as well. I also adore my shoes which you cannot see. I covered them in the same pink fabric I used for the dress and put the pink and white flowers from the wreaths onto the tops. All the ruffles are hand-gathered. If you couldn't tell, I had a love affair with this costume. I wanted to stay true to Sofia Coppola's and Milena Canonero's vision by making everything candy-colored. I'm very satisfied with the result. :)
- Personal Thoughts:
- Holy crap! This has been in the works for a VERY long time. I'm obsessed with Sofia Coppola's interpretation of Marie Antoinette, and I've been trying to pick a dress out of the movie to make for ages. I finally decided on the pink wreath gown because not only is it gorgeous, but it's one of her more simpler gowns in comparison to the others. It was my first time making a Georgian dress, so I didn't want to strain myself. However, now that I've had practice, I'm definitely going to take one some of her more complicated dresses. Anyway, this is kind of dream costume for me. I'm so happy with it. I feel like a pink cupcake when I'm wearing it. :3 Random fact: I walked around with my darling Rosiel in this costume, but we are in fact from two different series. She's Oscar from Rose of Versailles and I'm, of course, Marie Antoinette from Sofia Coppola's film. We felt that she and I fit, so we walked around together at D*C. Being in costume is 10x funner when you're with someone. :)
