I’d been meaning to cosplay Kaleido Star for quite a while but ran into some problems with my Sora costume. So, when my friend Neoangelwink cosplayed Sora, I thought it would be nice to do another character in the meanwhile so we could cosplay together sometime. ^_^
I chose Sarah since her antics amused me and her Cinderella costume looked like it would be cozy for the colder months. Since she’s a singer in a circus and this is one of her stage costumes, I chose materials like satin and sequin trim to give it a showy appearance. I was quite pleased with how the costume turned out and how the materials went together. ^_^
This was one of my more challenging costumes in terms of patterning and the trickiest part was the bottom of the dress. I made a separate underskirt with several layers of netting at the bottom, covered by a layer of faux fur to get the fan shape. I then altered the bottom of my dress pattern so it would have the points and fit over the shape created by the underskirt.
The dress and armwarmers are fully lined and all of the faux fur pieces have their own linings. The white flower is a fused applique with white sequins handstitched along the outlines. The white trim along the edges of the dress and armwarmers is sequin trim that I stitched in place by hand. The pink pieces are organza and the feathers sticking out of the hood were made with layers of organza and netting.
- Personal Thoughts:
- This is a fun costume to wear although half of the time, I seem to end up wearing it when it's ridiculously hot. XD; Last photo was from press day for the local Sakura Matsuri which is why there's so much random crossover.
