I love peacock feathers so when I saw the artwork for this Count D outfit, I was tempted to cosplay it.
This was my first Count D costume and one of the most challenging costumes I’ve made so far. The patterning was tricky due to the dress’s neckline and I had to draft the glove pattern myself since I couldn’t find a commercial pattern locally.
The dress was also time-consuming with about 20-25 hours of hand painting for the peacock feathers. All the feathers were handpainted using 6 colors of Lumiere paint, including 3 shades of green.
I only had a black and white manga reference when I started this so I choose my own colors, based on real peacock feathers. My colors turned out to be completely wrong when the artbook was published later; the official version was much more drab than I pictured (black with monochromatic brown feathers). ^_^;;; Still, I like my inaccurate colorful version since the pretty colors are what attract me to peacock feathers in the first place.
- Personal Thoughts:
- It's hard trying to look like a guy in this dress!
