Construction Details:

Ayame's antics amused me and he seemed like a fitting character to cosplay considering my interests. (He runs a costume shop and does embroidery!) I really liked his Golden Week outfit from the manga and chose to make that rather than his red anime costume.

Since the manga coat was completely shaded in, I decided to make mine in black tone-on-tone floral brocade with white brocade for the trim. I did the trim as appliques and then hand stitched clusters of beads on top of the appliques. All of the gold cording on the costume was also stitched into place by hand.

I also made shoe covers to match the coat and a black brocade skirt to wear underneath.

Personal Thoughts:

Although it's been a few years since I've made it, this is still my favorite of my Fruits Basket costumes. And because I'm a cosplay dork, I brought it with me on my lake vacation so I could take photos by the water since the characters visited a lake for Golden Week. XD;
