Sana-chan asked me to be her group's Kurogane, and as much as I thought, "I'm a shortie!" (not true, but 5'6" is a little small to not wear platforms), I made it work. Ugh, this costume. Beyond my skill level at the time. Made of more saftey pins than I'd like to recount. But there were several things that happened that I liked - the chest piece is the second version of it. I wanted to make it look segmented, like armor, but handsewing individual pleather-covered piecs together was not awesome. So I ended up taking several layers of fleece and sewing it in-between the pleather and lining. From there, I stitched down where I wanted the indents, and then glued down the red edging to give it more depth. I ended up loving it, and it's my "corsetchan" even though not entirely. The other thing is the headpiece - while I don't love how it turned out (too bulky!), the process was interesting. I don't do propwork - I haven't quite gotten the XP to delve into that yet. But it's foam covered with paper mache covered with paperclay and then painted. I spent a lot of time with a hair dryer trying to meld it to my face's shape, but still it's too bulky. Still, MAGNETO. Also, my first boot covers are here! I learned ALWAYS USE ELASTIC on the bottom - I have nothing on the bottom of these, and they're always slipping up my plats.
