Construction Details:

The girls and I wanted to do an Ouran group with some fairly spectacular costumes, which there's no shortage of in Ouran, particularly if you turn to the manga and artbooks. I fell in love with a Victorian-inspired poofball dress of Haruhi's that coordinated perfectly with the elaborate period outfits that Evali and BabyBerry had chosen for Kyouya and Tamaki. This costume required a ridiculous amount of work: period research, constructing a corset and hoopskirt and petticoats, pattern making. And then it took nearly 14 yards of maple-sugar-copper taffeta to make the dress! There are a lot of little details on the dress--like the matching rosette buttons--but I'm particularly proud of the hand-eyeleted cravat. And the broach--it used to be a hideous clip-on earring!
