The Wicked Witch of the West was one of my favorites when I was little. A MUSICAL about her? Yes please! I was fortunate enough to see Idina Menzel as Elphaba while I was in London - twice! *_* The pretentious musical theater nerd in me knows it isn't perfect, but something about Wicked just really touches my spirit. It's so amazing. I choose the Defying Gravity Dress because I didn't have the time or money to do the Act II gown (but someday I will!) I found this gorgeous paisley fabric at Michael Levine, altered a pattern for the top, and made up the skirt. Pretty easy. The hardest part of this costume, by far, was the make-up. I actually had my friends photoshop the green to the proper color because I failed so epically. I spent 100+ dollars on all of the ACTUAL MAKEUP THEY USE IN THE SHOW from MAC, but am too much of a makeup retard to apply it properly. -_- I just don't get it. It turns out all streaky and gross if you thin it with water, but if you don't thin it, it is too dark and thick. WTF? Oh well. Aside from the makeup and lame broom (I'll make a real one someday) I'm very happy with this costume. I know I'll continue to work on it because I know I'll continue to love Elphaba and make more of her costumes!
