I decided a week before Anime LA 2006 to make this costume. It was rushed, but not as badly as some of my costumes, hehe. The white underdress is made of simple white polyester. It has a high "babydoll" kind of cut, with a large waistband and the pleats starting at about my waist. I did this so that only the pleats would be visible with the jacket on, like in the reference pictures. I really like the underdress, it looks like a cute little nightgown or something XD I hate the fabric I used though - I cut it to fit my body exactly and it's really tight and uncomfortable. I like the cut, but I wish I had used a fabric with a little bit of stretch for comfort purposes. I sewed lace on the middle seam of the underdress and around the collar, just to give it some extra foof. I thought it was too plain when I did it following the reference pictures exactly. The little bow is made of white ribbon. The pleats are "stacked box pleats". I experimented with a few different things, but these gave lots of fullness and the pleat effect all the way to the bottom. Whoo! I used a Vogue pattern for the bodice of the underdress, but I changed it so much that it hardly mattered. The skirt and waistband were easy enough that I didn't use a pattern. The jacket is made of burgandy moleskin and it's lined with black stretch sateen. The collars are made of velveteen (hooray!). I used a Vogue pattern (2629 I think) for the jacket, and only altered it a little bit for the collar and to simplify their ridiculous lining. I'm pretty happy with it. The shoes I bought at the thrift store and polished with dark brown polish to change the color a little bit. The earrings were silver ones I already had that I painted with lavender nail polish. Whee! I bought the fabulously long Godiva wig and cut bangs in to it on one side. I bought a headband at Vons and that was that! This was a good wig experience for me, and I haven't had many of those. Very refreshing. I had to do makeup with this costume, which I was nervous about, but I think it worked okay. I wore blue contacts and smeared myself with as much pale powder and goo as I could find to change the tone of my skin. I look like a man in blonde wigs unless I change my skin tone. I also drew on her notorious eyebrows with...an eyebrow pencil thing, I dunno what it's called. I was happy with them except for the fact that my wig covers them most of the time. I'm pretty happy with this costume, all in all! That doesn't happen very often. XD
