About this Costume
Construction Details:
When I first laid eyes on THORES' artwork, I fell in love with it... especially her designs for the Trinity Blood Methuselah (vampire) royalty. Mirka's was automatically my favorite. After debating it for a couple years (I ended up making Jane Judith Jocelyn first!), I decided to tackle making this beast. A beast it was... I ended up using over 10 yards of velvet and close to 40 yards of different gold trims. Every last inch of the applique and trim was sewn on by hand, then selectively beaded and rhinestoned with Swarovski crystal. At first, the chestplate and armband pieces were made of stiffened craft foam. In 2008 I went back and remade those pieces out of Sintra, a rigid plastic. While I'm very proud of the final product, this costume is INCREDIBLY uncomfortable to wear. I can only handle being in it for an hour or two at a time. Because of this, I don't have many photos of myself in it.
Personal Thoughts:
I'm quite satisfied with the outcome of this costume! It's just a terrible pain to wear.... it's boiling hot, the chestplate impairs my mobility as far as sitting and bending over goes, and the wig. My god, THAT WIG. I will never do another costume with super-long hair. Ever. :( Also, my fingers will never be the same after all the handsewing...
