About this Costume
Construction Details:
I bought a painter's suit and tried it on, but it was too big...which was fine because I needed two, so I bought a second suit in a correct size. I then used the larger suit as spare parts to make the pockets and the helmet. I found a facemask with a clear front at Lowes and put black vinyl (from Cricut) on the inside of the mask. The filter on the front is fake. I 3D printed it, put black Cricut inside, and hot glued it to the facemask. The gloves are legit hazmat gloves that are supposed to go all the way up your arms, but I cut them off at a proper length. I used neon orange canvas for the trim on the helmet, pockets, and bottom of the legs. The silver snaps on the helmet are actual snaps, but they're just hot glued in place and non-functional. There is a radiation symbol on the back of the suit that was manually cut from Cricut vinyl and stuck on. Then I added additional accessories like a stopwatch, bulldog clip, notepad, and pens. I had a Futaba remote control from the 1980s and brought that as well so that I could remotely control any DeLorean time machines that happened to appear.
Personal Thoughts:
Going to a convention during a pandemic is a risky situation, so I wanted a costume that would cover my full body and help offer at least a little more protection than just a mask. I considered space suits from some shows and movies, but ultimately decided to finally cosplay from my favorite movie, Back to the Future. I'm too tall for Marty even though I REALLY wanted to cosplay as "Darth Vader from the planet Vulcan", so I decided to dress in a white radiation suit like Doc Brown wore in the first movie.
