About this Costume
Construction Details:
The original white, synthetic fur had to be dyed to get the orange color. Online reviews of the Rit synthetic dye complained of the strong chemical smell when boiled, so I decided to take it outside.
I dyed the fur in a large pot over a campfire for about 45 minutes. Once I had the desired color, I glued the fabric to thick interfacing to make the ears. The purple-ish insides are done in acrylic paint and the ears are sewn to the wig.
Gnar's skull helmet was made using heavy duty aluminum foil as a base. After molding it to the desired shape, I coated it in several layers of Mod Podge and tissue paper. Once it dried, I colored it with white paint and dusted it with powder from a contour palette before sealing it with clear spray paint. The skull stays in place by a headband, barrette, and comb glued into the underside.
The boomerang was cut out of insulation foam, covered with Mod Podge and tissue paper, and colored in the same manner as the skull helmet.
Personal Thoughts:
I had a good amount of creative freedom with this look, considering Gnar is a tiny furball. I think the overall design was successful. Recognizable but still unique when compared to other humanoid Gnar cosplays I've seen.
