Construction Details:

Made from faux dupioni, dyed cotton twill, cotton sateen, and spandex (gold and black). Patterns were based on traditional Japanese garments, but modified due to the fact they are not traditional garments.

Kimono is red faux dupioni, gold spandex, black and white cotton sateen. The applique is outlined with gold seed beads. There is hand embroidery along the sleeve and outlining the reverse appliqued piece. The underkimono is white cotton sateen with gold trim that ties to close.

The undershirt is spandex, patterned from scratch. It pulls on and the collar snaps shut in the back. This whole thing needs to be fixed and replaced. The gloves are spandex with a handsewn panel on the back for the armor piece that has applique and hand embroidery on it. The finger rings are spandex and need to be replaced.

Hakama are brushed cotton twill, dyed to a pale grey. There is an inset piece of cotton sateen on both sides sewn in. Needs to be shortened.

The waist armor is two layers of canvas, gold spandex trim, and hand embroidered details. The hard armor is worbla over foam, painted with acrylics, finished with floor finish. The armor is held on with snaps and the holders themselves are poly cotton twill with a 2mm foam core, handsewn in place.

The cape is cotton sateen, lined in cotton broadcloth. The applique is cotton sateen, satinstitched in place. The neckband is sewn into the layer and folded over to match the reference art.

The sword is made from plywood, PVC, worbla, and foam. I used a tutorial by the lovely Shibuya Mariko on facebook. The sword can be drawn and sheathed easily. First major prop build and it came out super good.

Personal Thoughts:

A hell of a challenge. First time making large props and this much Japanese-style armor. Needs some improvement, but hey!

Styling Notes

Really just cut bangs into it and pulled a few pieces back to tie it. Needs some adjustments to the bangs next time.
