About this Costume
- Construction Details:

Broke out the trusty military jacket pattern, using a white twill mix for the jacket, so that it would not only match the pants in colour and texture, but also so it wouldn’t be see-thru and need to be lined. Took the sleeves in for the narrow arms, and used a cone shape cut for the black ends. Grey bias tape was used for both the trim parts on the sleeves, as well as the middle jacket trim, and grey cotton fabric was used for the bottom trim on the jacket. The collar is double backed in stablizer to keep it up right, and the grey trim is thick foam covered in fabric. The three stars on the collar are put on with heat and bond, as is the black three-star on the front. Due to the size, I also stitched down the black star with a tight and narrow zigzag. I used an invisible white zipper, and painted it over where the black and grey parts were so it would blend in more. The shoulder pieces are foam covered in fabric, with the studs being smaller studs mounted on foam, clayed and gesso’d over and spraypainted. The connectors on the sleeves are coned foam sheets, and the pockets and power box are also foam sheets. The bag spikes are a foam core covered in paper and painted. The base for the “power cords” is a rolled foam sheet on both the top and the bottom. The actual “cords” are clear blue Rexlace. Due to time constraints, his glasses are regular reading glasses lens, coloured in marker (because the window paint kept separating), and drimmled the screw holes and attached to frames.
- Personal Thoughts:
- I originally did not see myself finishing this costume (let alone starting it) due to school and work putting a lot of stress physically and mentally/emotionally on me, but less than a week before the con I got my second wind and blew through it as fast as possible. While I cut A LOT of corners and it definitely isn’t my best work, I’m proud of myself for pulling out of my slump and managing to get it done so fast.
