About this Costume
Construction Details:
Tried to find a thicker fabric to prevent as much seeing-though as possible, without using something super heavy, and ended up with a slight one-way stretch bottomweight fabric.

Used a simple pant pattern for the bottoms and sewed the angular seams in the pants before actually sewing the pieces together to try and simplify it some. I used a satin maroon for the waistband. I made the side cut-outs before adding the waistband(s) in order to save myself from having to put pleats in the waistband to fit them/keep the poof. The rhombuses are pink satin put on with heat'n'bond.

The top is a regular poncho pattern, altered as needed and lined in black satinThe back cut-out definitely was a leap for me, using a narrow, very short zig-zag stitch to seal it up (after several failed attempts using other means). The bottom trim is a multi-way stretch gold vinyl with glittery pink trim as the divider between the gold and white fabric. The Collar is made from the same maroon satin as the pants' wiastband, and trimmed in gold bias tape and is re-enforced with stabilizer. The front and collar close with simple eye-hooks sewn into the collar and one on the actual cape. The fringe is pink twist braid, cut and then sealed using low-temp hotglue (at the sacrifice of my fingers), and the large gold cord is a thicker two twist cord.

The Silver hangers are made from 1/2" spools covered in Model Magic, and then painted silver. The large gold button is a base button with added clay to the top and coloured.
