About this Costume
- Personal Thoughts:
- As soon as I saw this movie I was hooked. We must have watched it a dozen times the first week it was on DVD. One time when my fiancee and I were watching it I mentioned that this would be one of my top 5 dream cosplays, but there was no way I could actually do it justice. She had enough faith in me to push me towards it!
I started by finding some good detailed pictures of his armor online, printed them out, and then drew out a scaled pattern for myself. Then I laid the pattern over some EVA foam and cut it out. After cutting out every layer, and gluing them all together, we coated it in Plasti-dip, spray painted, and ta-da! Thor's armor!
The costume wasn't complete without the cape though, and while I may be a mad genius when it comes to crafting, my sewing skills are still lacking. Thankfully, that's what Fiancee's are for! She made the cape for me, but there was just something lacking about it. It just hung limply off my shoulders. So we headed down to Lows and found a large AC duct. We cut it into the right shape to give the lift we needed, and then made a harness to attach it to me. Some straps fed up through the top of the armor and connected to the cape.
If you want any good ideas on how to make EVA armor check out Replica Prop forum. Those guys are the masters!
