Construction Details:

This costume is based on the clay models shown in the game's instruction manual. I originally constructed it in 2004, but I remade half the costume in 2009. I've since retired it because Squeenix released new artwork with the recent cell phone port of Seiken Densetsu 2, and Randi's design is now crazy elaborate and makes mine look all lame. I want it. The shirt and pants are 100% linen. They also double nicely as pajamas. The cowl and buttflap thing are a cotton gabardine. The vambraces are a sandwich of leather, cardboard from a Cheerios box, and black fleece. Sewing through all those layers by hand to secure them and attach the Santa fuzz and gold cord left my hands very sore. (Those vambraces are so old now that the fuzz is nappy and gross on the inside.) The spear is mostly wood. The head is hand-cut because I don't have big power tools. There's some PVC pipe and clay in there to connect the head to the shaft and conceal the join. "Aren't you supposed to have a sword?" There are EIGHT weapons in the game. The spear was my favorite.
