About this Costume

Some AGSMA members *really* wanted to do a Foster's Home skit, but since it's not anime that ruled out doing it for AX (one of the few cons where all of us show up). Since the Worldcon was in L.A. (Anaheim, really) this year we decided to pull this off there. Wayne, Mich & Kim (aka "Rice and Ramen"), Lydia, Henry and I were the group; when Henry couldn't make it out (he did the soundtrack), Jeff of i360.com filled in admirably. Because this was Worldcon/ICG rules, I could once again enlist the help of Lynette for clothing and draping/covering. I sculpted Blake's head, body, boots, gloves and epilats and Lynette covered them in spandex or polar fleece. The cape is crepe-backed satin (doesn't wrinkle as much). Since Blake is a cartoon character, we wanted to give him clean, simple lines, so the decision to go with smooth materials instead of furs (except for his hair). Blake is a nice, comfortable costume to wear. Slight problem with vision (limited, but it let me perform the skit). The boots were-- oddly-- the hardest thing to make on this costume. They look simple, but I learned that simple does not equal easy. Boots took more time than his head to make. And I'm on a 2-4" riser inside them to help with the odd cartoon proportions. He was fun to make! Some kids (and most adults) didn't know who he was-- but they loved him. Neat!
