Help with Boots

Post by hyperionwitch » Sun Feb 26, 2006 9:04 pm

I know, I just posted. This is what happens when you start a costume and plan another at the same time. ^^;

So, I'm going to do MOMO from Xenosaga (here is a reference: http://www.xenolegacy.com/gallery/displ ... m=1&pos=34 ). I've already made plans on how to do everything, but I'm unsure on the boots. I plan to use stockings of some kind and alter them to be proper--I'll put the stockings over a pair of shoes I own (two layers--one is too transparent--and I still have to figure out how to keep the tongue of the shoes from protruding, but anyway). I've tried it with some tights I have and the effect is what I'm looking for. However, I'm at a bit of a loss for both the top of the boots and the soles of the boots.

How would I go about making the circular protrusion at the top of the boots (where the design is placed)? Or the top of the boots at all, for that matter? Should I just trim the top of some stockings to make them in the right shape them add trim or something? Can I sew trim at the top to make it dark grey like that, or is there some other way I should go about doing this? I'll probably put something harder on the inside of the circle so I can properly attach the designs, but...suggestions on the "something harder" would be welcome, too. And as for the bottom of the boots, I was thinking about finding a pair of large sneakers and somehow...detaching the soles from the sneakers and attaching them to the stockings. It'll probably be hard, but I don't know what else would get that effect.

Sorry for the length. ^^; Any ideas on either of these matters?

Thanks!

Well the way you are doing it I would say at the top get some silver metalic paint and paint around and of course use some cardboard inserts as to not get paint everywhere. for the desgins on the frount you could actually use fun foam and use this tutorial http://entropyhouse.com/penwiper/costum ... sdeep.html it looks like armor of sorts and you could prolly do it with the top circular emblem thing. for the bottom you could panit that as well or fun foam and fun foam with a lil heat is plyable to form so cut your design and then form. fun foam is pretty cheap so you can expirement a bit with it to get your desired look.

Thanks for the suggestions, they sound really good. I'll have to try them. As for the bottom of the shoes...I dunno. I think I'd worry about walking around on fun foam. ^^; That's why the shoe idea seems attractive to me--it'll be like...walking around on shoes. I dunno.

Thanks again!
