Sewing Machine Tension Problem
I'm having a problem with my sewing machine... the tension is so messed up, it'll be too loose or too tight where the thread gets messed up on the bottom or top of the fabric, but when I think I get it working, the thread just comes out of the fabric. Everything seems to be threaded right, checked it so many times... can anyone help me?

I've been having the same problem... usually the tension should be set on 2 (or something like that), but it can just screw up all by itself. The way I did it was just to fiddle with the tension every time I sew something different, as I have yet to see some set 'standard' by which tension should be set for varying cloth thicknesses.
I also am eager to see how others would solve this problem.

no leap in logic is too extreme... for RAGE!

oh I hate when that happens. I just move the knob around until it stops messing up.

I had this exact same problem with a 1967 Singer (older than me!). I even took it to a repair shop but they couldn't fix it. My experience is that there's just no fixing it once this problem starts so you have to either learn lots and lots of new swear words and handsewing stitches or buy a new one.
I got lucky and got a lovely new one given to me by my boyfriend's mother. She's a seamstress and was getting rid of her old (still very high quality) one. You can sometimes buy machines for very cheap from sewing schools, check your local paper.
Good luck, I feel your pain!

hopefully the place you bought the machine from or the company that makes it will take it back and refund your money ... when you go to purchase a new one you should ask around to see if any experienced seamstresses have any brand or models they know are good quality and would recommend... i had a 1950'ish Singer that worked fine, and now i have a Kenmore (circa 1970's), a Brother (2000), and a Singer (1980 something) that have never done me wrong (I like the Brother models the best). ^_^

I had the same exact problem with my old sewing machine. I guess it was just a defect with the threading method. Apparently they had to create an entirely new threading technique, which, by the way works like a charm. I got a new machine for christmas last year and I have not had a single thread break. Even sewing very thick leather and fur. All I can say is you're just going to have to chip in the money for a new machine. Sorry bout that, guys.=/ Hey, are you the one who was dressed up as Lady Subaru at AFO who was hanging out with Faye? I was the one dressed up in blue.
