This is going to be my first time ever making and doing cosplay ^^'' I'm going to be Sakura from Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle (Clow outfit). I'm going to buy a white skirt and a white shirt and fabric paint them. But how do I outline where I'm going to paint without (permanantly) marking the white material? I know there's probably a really simple answer to this but I sucked a textiles at school so...^^'
Attached is a simple version of the outfit. I'm planning on editing this greatly.

Well, a simple pencil marking would work, or if you got some chalk pencils too, those come out easy and are ment for marking without staying. Usually I would make a pattern out of paper or something for the outlined parts and trace it before I do the painting. I hope I could be of help.

Re: Fabric painting a skirt help (newbie!)
but to get those straight lines, try using painters/masking tape. It should be sticky enough to stick to the fabric (depending on what kind, and it give you more leeway when painting it. (Although, it does seem it might be easier to just cut pieces of felt and sew that on).
Re: Fabric painting a skirt help (newbie!)
please don't paint it. do this instead, it's easy and looks amazing:
