How gaming helped improve your English (or any other language)
Anyone else pick up a lot of English just from playing games? I barely understood half of what was going on in CS 1.6 at first, but reading chat and listening to people talk, I started picking up phrases and slang. Weird way to learn a language but it worked. Wonder if anyone else had a similar experience.

Totally! My English improved a ton thanks to games like CS 1.6. You get thrown into matches with people from everywhere, and you just have to figure things out as you go. Stuff like “cover me,” “rush B,” or even simple things like “nice shot” all came from gaming. If you want to jump back in, you can grab the download Counter-Strike 1.6 and just play with randoms — it’s still a great way to practice, honestly. A couple of my friends learned enough just by playing to actually pass English classes at school, which is kind of wild.

It’s true, gaming does help with language skills. Not just English, either — I’ve picked up random words in a few other languages just from playing on international servers. Cool side effect of online gaming.
