OT: Car poll

Post by Fialchar » Wed Sep 07, 2005 6:05 am

Well, I've done a lot of researching and have compiled a list of cars for sale in my area (or 75 miles away)

Anyone have an opinion on which I should get? Ultimately, I'm most likely to go with a Japanese import that I can build, for there lies my greatest passion with cars.

All cars listed are 5 speed manuals. So far I'm leaning towards the Subaru, Integra, and Civic Si

Amen, and god bless AWD cars ^^

Cool thing about the 2.5 RS is it has the same engine/drivertain/etc as the WRX STi, so I can build it to 400 wheel horsepower pretty easily ^^

Men are always wrong (Or so women tell me ^^) but it brought me to a curious question:

If a man says something in the woods, and there's no women around to hear him... Is he still wrong? :shock:

I made it because my last one got wrecked and totalled (Hence my time in the hospital, coma, and all those broken bones >_>). Now I got $14,000 from insurance, so I'll prolly buy a car, and use anything left + some other accounts to build it up ^^

Most people hold on strongly to the beliefs of right and wrong, but all they are is a way for perfectionists to maintain control. And for one person to be right, the other has to be wrong.

Instead I work out of working and non-working, much more reasonable beliefs.

Subie'll be better for the snow, but I'm in Florida, so the only thing that the AWD will be used for is getting in some really fast launches from a stop light ^^

The Integra would be a good choice too, it's definately got the aftermarket parts selection, and I can build a full turbo kit for it for around $1700 (That's really cheap for a turbo kit). the only thing I don't like about Hondas/Acuras is that they're so common.. Everybody and their momma has a Civic, and Integra's are almost the same way.

Plus the Subie has an extra .7 displacement over the Acura, so I'll get better response from a turbo, or other mods ^^ (I guess the other thing I don't like about Hondas/Acuras is that they have weak low-end power, but peaky high-end power >.<)

Still, finding the parts I need would be much easier and cheaper with the Integra, especially if I swap in a B18C enginge (Integra Type R, or I could swap in an Integra GSR engine ^^)

Found a likely solution. I found a 1999 Infiniti G20 5 speed for $7500, it comes with a SR20DE engine (The SR20DET is a famous engine among import and Nissan enthusiasts) So I'll be able to spend a minimum to get the turbo parts I need to do a conversion for cheap at a salvage yard. Also, there's m-o-u-n-t-a-i-n-s of aftermarket parts for it ^^

Edit: Well, the Infiniti, as it turns out, was an automatic :( They advertised it as being a 5 speed, having 20,000 less miles than it did, and it had h-o-r-r-i-b-l-e body damage. I guess I should have expected something like that from a car lot in that area of town (Darn W street, lol)
Looks like I'll have to turn to something else, I found a 1995 Celica 5 speed for $4,995, and XAT Racing says they can do a 3S-GTE engine swap with a low milage JDM engine/tranny, among a lot of other nifty engine components for $4500 for stage one, or $6000 for stage two (Yay, I don't even have to get my hands dirty this time ^_^) I think I'll prolly go stage one, and use the extra money to bring it up to stage two myself, and save a bit of money. Anywho, it might be a 1995 Celica with a JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) imported engine, and JDM imported transmission, built to stage two. I should have enough left to bring the interior up to par, and update it from stock (ick..)

Looked at another car from XAT Racing;
$5300 1989 Corolla GT-S Sport Coupe (AE92, for any techie junkies out there :wink: )

Engine swapped for a JDM 4A-GZE engine and supercharger, + new fuel system (Walbro fuel pump, etc). Based off of my knowledge of AE Corolla's, I'd say this has a good 180 wheel horsepower (I.E., a car that claims, or advertises 200 hp, only has about 160 wheel horsepower) and should be easy to build up beyond that, clearing to at least 300 whp. This would definately make a mean drifting machine (If you get the right AE, it's RWD and perfectly balanced 50/50 ^_^), plus I can install limited-slip differentials to make it do awesome burnouts :P. It's an older car, so I'd definately have to sink at least $4000 into the interior, but meh.. it's a well-balanced, speedy car that knowns how to handle, and it's cheap ~_^

If any of you are Initial D fans, the car he races is the AE86 Corolla, whereas this is the AE92, an updated and remade version.

Lol, anywho, I imagine you're all getting bored with me mumbling in car-techie language >_>;

Well, I suppose I put swap in a 1JZ-GTE twin turbo engine (2.5L Supra engine), which isn't quite as famous as the 2JZ-GTE (3.0L Supra engine) which either one would give me gobs of horsepower and tuning potential. Unfortunately, though, even a mid-90's used Supra goes for $20,000 b/c of their popularity and tuning possibilities, and getting ahold of an engine isn't too easy (or cheap!)

Well, the AE92 GT-S Sport coupe has already been sold :(

Which sucks, because it would have made a niiice sleeper. So now the one I'm looking at as a 98 Nissan 200SX SE, which came stock with the GA16DE engine (About 85 wheel horsepower, or 115 horsepower at the flywheel), but I think I'd swap it out for a JDM S13 SR20DET motor-set, Greddy V-SPL frount mount intercooler, Greddy Profec B spec2 Boost Controller, 3 inch downpipe, Walbro 255 Fuel pump, Greddy Blow Off Valve, Aluminum Hot Pipe, Megan Racing Full 3" cat-back exhaust system, FLEX-A-LITE dual 12in electric fans with thermal switch control, organic clutch disc with resurfaced flywheel and pressure plate, new small battery to fit intercooler piping, all fluids, belts, air filter, and NGK plugs. It'll only be about $10,600 or so to finish this build ($3988 for the car, the rest for the engine swap/parts), and it should have r-e-a-l close to 250 wheel horsepower (something close to 300 advertised horsepower). From the swap, I'll also be able to convert the 200SX to a RWD car, turning it into a one-of-a-kind drifting car ^_^ It'd be rare to have a RWD 200SX (They were all built as FWD cars only), it'd be a sleeper, and the RWD would eliminate torque steer (A problem with FWD cars when you get above a certain horsepower - when the car swerves to the right or left at takeoff). It's already a 5 speed, so thank god I don't have to go through the hassle of swapping out the transmission and pedal cluster :)

As light as this car is, it's gonna f-l-y with 250 RWHP ~_^

Let's hope this one doesn't get sold before I'm allowed to have my liscence again >_>;

Well, you could always research it and become well-versed in it yourself. It doesn't confuse me at all, I love car talk (As long as the car being talked about is a Japanese import :wink: )

To put it in simpler terms, imagine a car the size/weight of a Miata with the same horsepower of a Subaru WRX STi

:shock: !

Hey! No following me! =P

The 200SX SE with the SR20DET swap is still a possibility, but I'm also considering a 1992 Lexus SC300 (They're really rare with a 5 speed ^_^). If you don't know, the Lexus SC300 has the Toyota Supra engine, without a turbocharger or anything they're good for 225 horsepower stock. With a turbo system and basic bolt ons, it can be tuned to upwards of 400 HP (EASILY able to go beyond that, just depends on how much you want to spend). These cars are also RWD, so I won't need to do any drivetrain work to change it :) (A FWD car can't do a legitimate drift, after all, and with a FWD car, after you get over 300 or so wheel horsepower, you get what's called torque steer, which is the car pulling hard to the side at acceleration. Not a problem for RWD's ^_^)

Sooooo, I guess my choices now are:

98 Nissan 200SX SE Coupe 5 speed (JDM SR20DET, it'll have around 300 hp when I'm done) Should be around $12,000 total
92 Lexus SC300 Coupe 5 speed (USDM 2JZ-GTE, should have around 400 hp) Should be around $14,000 total
94 Nissan NX2000 Targa 5 speed (JDM SR20DET, around 300 hp, Same as 200SX) Should be around $12,500 total

If it's a choice between a Toyota or a Nissan (Lexus is made by Toyota..), well, sorry Nismo, but I gotta go with the Toyota.

(The SR20DET engine will be bought through XAT Racing, a company in Tampa, and they're the ones who are selling the stock '92 Lexus SC300. All prices I've made are rough estimates, could be less, could be more. The 200SX and NX2000 are both around $4000 for the car alone, the SC300 is $6988 for the car alone)

I love cars, and car talk. I can go on for days and days and days, but right now I'm limiting myself to only my current choices and options as far as my next car, and the amount of modification I would choose to do. I could do more, of course, but I wanna leave part of the account to pay for insurance for a couple years. Insurance is a pain in the, but, I suppose it's important. (XD)

Wow.. I found out I could buy a brand new Suzuki Hayabusa GSX 1300 R Limited (World's fastest production motorcycle) and still have more than enough left-over to modify it with a turbo kit or w/e :P

http://www.suzukicycles.com/Products/GS ... fault.aspx

Hayabusa = 200 mph top speed, 0-60 mph in 2.5 seconds, 9 second 1/4 mile times
(Not even a Dodge Viper, with a V10, can do a 9 second quarter mile :))

A Dodge Viper (depending on model) does a 12-13 second 1/4 mile run
A Ferrari Testarossa does the quarter mile in 14.2 seconds
A Ford Mustang GT in 13.8 seconds
Porsche 911 Speedster in 14.7 seconds

If I go with the Hayabusa (With an aftermarket turbocahrger, of course..) I'll be ROASTING anything on wheels here in P-Cola :):):)

O..M..G..

I just got the pics on the Lexus SC300, and I hope to GOD this thing isn't sold before I get my liscence :shock:

http://xat-racing.ebizautos.com/detail. ... 300/Coupe/

Xat Raxing said they can do a JDM 1JZ-GTTE swap in the car for a total price (Engine, car, and all work) for only 12 grand. The 1JZ-GTTE, if anyone doesn't know, is the Japanese-only Supra engine, the twin turbo version :D:D

This thing is in PRISTINE condition, and with that Japanese engine.. *Drools*

The stock power rating of this engine is 280 PS, with the extra work they'd do, it should be around 320, and I'll EASILY be able to bring it over 500 once it gets here. I think I found my new obsession.. :]
