Contest Suggestions
Contest Suggestions
Following our announcement on the front page, here's where you can suggest contests for us to hold at ACP this year!
So reply with an anime, manga, or game series you think would make for a good contest on ACP. But first, a couple rules!
1. Don't suggest series with simple outfits - we want these contests to be mostly based on the cosplayer's skill! So this means no Death Note, no Ouran Host Club, Prince of Tennis, etc.
2. Try to avoid really old series - it's harder for me to find prizes for them.
3. No hentai series (duh)
Keep in mind, these are just suggestions, to give us a feel of what you guys like, and we may only pick one or two to be actual contests.

As I'm a staunch supporter of the underdog, what about Sugar Sugar Rune or Victorian Romance Emma?
I also wouldn't be averse to an Evangelion contest, for obvious reasons.

The thing with this one is that the majority of the characters cosplayed from that series are either Link, Zelda, or Malon. Not to mention, I don't think there'd be too many Zelda goodies out there (I'm just basing this on what I see in dealer's rooms, so I could be wrong ^^; )TR Rose wrote:How about a Legend of Zelda contest? There are a lot of games in the series, and it's gained new popularity w/ Twilight Princess's release. There are a lot of characters, too.
I second the Utena one, though. A lot of characters from it and a lot have been cosplayed.
How about Kingdom Hearts, or D. Gray-man? There's a lot of cosplays from those series.

I like the idea of Utena, as well as Kingdom Hearts. All the costumes take skill to create, and they are popular to cosplay.AkirQueen wrote:I second the Utena one, though. A lot of characters from it and a lot have been cosplayed.

D. Gray Man is still fairly new fanbase-wise. Sure it is growing CRAZY fast, but it is still in the early stages. Maybe later in the year or something. ^^
Well, Link's design has gotten more detailed, thanks to Twilight Princess. But I dunno, I think Zelda would be a good idea. While the costumes aren't WAY simple, they're simple enough that you can tell if there's something amiss.AkirQueen wrote:The thing with this one is that the majority of the characters cosplayed from that series are either Link, Zelda, or Malon. I second the Zelda idea.

While I personally don't care for Chobits, I agree that it might be a good one with all the costume options. Kingdom Hearts could also be okay, but a lot of the costumes are also a bit simple (Namine, Olette).

Sure SOME are simple, but Kairi in KH1 looks simple, but it kicked my butt when I made it. It is easy to make an simple cosplay, but it is hard to make it look really good!!

i like the final fantasy and kh idea
uum, how about trinity blood, really awsome detailed characters in that anime, but it maybe hard to pull off, since the characters in the artwork versions are very heavy with detailXPP very heavy!
oh, how bout naruto, i think its overdone, but still good characters in it to cosplay as like itachi-sama^^=
i was thinking that maybe, for some of the animes u guys suggest, how about doin the artwork versions(not from the show, but from the artbook) of the characters , coz artwork versions have more details, and many interesting outfits
oh my last one is rozen maiden, that anime has some good characters to cosplay as^^

CosplayLab has already held Look-Alike contests for Chii from Chobits, characters from FFVII and FFX, characters from KH, and two Naruto contests:
http://www.cosplaylab.com/contests/winners/index.asp
It would be nice to hold a contest on something that hasn't been done before. It can't be something that's too old or too obscure, otherwise it will be harder or more expensive to find prizes and contestants.

Well, that is CosplayLab. Some people here may not be members of the lab, or did not have a costume at the time of the contest to enter. Repeating it would be okay, especially with Chii, since that was so long ago.
I would not mind to see the contests repeated for the people who could not enter on the Lab or non labrats. Maybe make a registriction that if you won on a Lab contest, you can't enter the same contest here? That would be fair enough, right?

Yes, these are 2 separate sites so contests on one shouldn't affect the other beyond just taking a look to see that we're not running the same series/game simultaneously. ^_^
Chii would be a great choice, and there are so many characters/themes from Final Fantasy & its offshoots that we could run an entire year of contests of just FF and still not exhaust all the possibilities.
Alichino
Soul Calibur
Magna Carta
Those are some others with pretty snazzy outfits. So many options, yet so hard to choose!

I wouldn't even think that would be neccessary. I really think it doesn't matter if someone's won on a different website, since as you said before, this is not cosplaylab. :3Lolita Minako wrote:Maybe make a registriction that if you won on a Lab contest, you can't enter the same contest here? Nana by Ai Yazawa is extremely popular in Japan right now, isn't it? You could really pick up some awesome things. More importantly, although the costumes the characters wear seem like everyday clothes, they're actually very, very specific, down to the brand label.
Recreating designer accessories to the tee, in addition to the basic frame work, makeup, wig, and perfectly replicated accessories... it can be tougher than one would assume. So that'd be my two yen. ^.^

I'd like either Kingdom Hearts or Final Fantasy, both series have a great deal of skill-required costumes. Also, about the Lab thing, I(and probably many other people) only joined cosplaylab about a year ago, so I never got to enter the contest(s) with respective costumes that were made after the contests, so I don't think repeating contest should be a problem.
Next cons : Fanime 2008, Anime Expo 2008, PMX 2008, Anime LA 2009.
That's another excellent point. It makes more sense for another site to do any contest they want than for the Lab to repeat, and, as you said, more people can have fun with it.AkuRokulover wrote:I'd like either Kingdom Hearts or Final Fantasy, both series have a great deal of skill-required costumes. what about something like fire emblem, i mean those are rarely ever looked at but such cool outfits, and with final fantasy its hard to go wrong so what about like ff3 since it was release a while ago in america....or even hellsing, and to say loveless is a good anime if you can overlook the various homosexual tendencies....

We could do Demonbane. It's a fairly new series, and I personaly would love to see some of the outfits cosplayed because they are awesome, and so very cute! And because I don't see them very often.
