Mew Mint?

Post by kiki_bunny23 » Wed Sep 24, 2008 9:11 am

Ok so I have the items to make a mew mint [mint from tokyo mew mew] cosplay outfit but I just have one problem...I have no idea to go about making it. I have pictures of all the things I have but I still have to get hair dye [or something because I'm not allowed to get a wig], blue contacts [or whatever color her eyes are], and things to make the wings, tail, and arrow.

If anyone could help with a pattern or something that would be great because I don't know how to get started on it [I've only made a dress before and it was fitted at the top but wasn't at the bottom] and everytime my friend comes to help, we get sidetracked. So yea....but I have until June '09 to get it done but I wanna get used to it and stuff, and wear it around to see if anything needs to be adjusted.

But if you can help I will forever be in debt. Thanks

I plan to do this costume as well next year. So far I've found two
patterns I'd like to work with:

Simplicity 4272:
http://www.simplicity.com/dv1_v4.cfm?design=4272

Simplicity 4401:
http://www.simplicity.com/dv1_v4.cfm?design=5561

I'm leaning towards 4401, although I'm still looking and taking
suggestions myself. If neither of these are to your liking, I suggest
checking out the local fabric shop and looking through special occasion
dresses. There are lots of different patterns out there.

For her wings and tail I plan to use craft foam. It's sturdy but
flexible. Cut them to shape them cover them with fabric (something like
a slip cover). You could also make a wire base for the wings. Her
wings are small, but you may be able to use an online wing making
tutorial as well.

For her prop, model magic may work, or paper mache with a foam base.

My half a cent. Best of luck with the costume! ^^

Yea, the 4401 would work but I'm not sure what dress size I am [I'm not a dressy person] so I might just get some scrap fabric and practice some more...my friend is hopefully gonna help me with the wings and tail. More or less, I'm gettin clear straps to hold up the dress and hold the wings in place [since they are on her back] but Laura is gonna try and get this sticky stuff instead so it looks more realistic.
Who knows....

well, I started working on the dress and I have to sew it all by hand >_< but...me and Laura got a pattern made, cut out the fabric and sewed the front part. I just finished the choker [without the charm] about ten minutes ago after fighting with the hot glue gun.

All that's left to do is...
get gloves/boots
garter and arm things
finish the back of the dress
sew everything
hem
find a way to do odangos
the bow

wow....thats a lot to do before halloween *sweatdrop* oh well

Oh that one heh, thanks for clearing that up. With their names are all food puns I gotta keep track of them.

I like how the names go with the suggested colors.

yeah, I like Ichigos outfit but I hate the color pink haha.

I would be best as lettuce or pudding since I'm very hyper but shy but mint's outfit was simplist so I went with it

so it sounds like you got the dress, wings and tail figured out :-). How bout the shoes?? I would suggest doing shoe covers so you can make the top part cinch around your ankle like in the anime pic. I think that would be the easiest way to do them. Have you found the gloves or are you gonna try to make some? Can you post some pics of the dress when its done??

Hm, I wasn't sure how I was gonna do the shoes but yea, I think I'll do a covering now that you mention it. And I was planning on making the gloves but I'm not sure how to do that...*sweatdrop*

ok cool!! I found a site that has a tutorial on making all different types of gloves. I just glanced at it, but it looks pretty good. http://vintagesewing.info/1950s/50-hmg/hmg-toc.html
McCalls and Butterick also have patterns. Good luck with the gloves! if worse comes to worse, you could just trace your hands and cut it out of the fabric and sew the 2 pieces together LOL

The tutorial is awesome. *adds to bookmarks* Thanks for sharing!

If you buy a pattern in the future, I recommend Vogue Accessories #V0667. Found a link to a review with pics of the pattern:

http://insaneaboutgarb.com/gloves.html

I like this pattern because it has a variety of long and short gloves that can be easily sized. But as cosplaymandy said, there are many different patterns available.
