help on patterns
I made this costume and I never used a pattern, I just made a bunch of rectangle's for the whole thing.
The shirt: I made mine with sleeves that wernt attached. I just took my bust and added 15" to it. Put a casing at the top and put an elastic on it. I did the same for the sleeves but only added 7" to the widest part of my sleeve. Just to add fullness.
The Skirt again, I made a rectangle the same length as my waist and I think I made mine 7" tall. And then just box pleated a long strip of the same fabric, again as a rectangle untill it went all the way over the bottem hem of the waist skirt. Then I added another box pleated ruffle thats longer under that one, and sewed them all onto the waist part. This whole costume really is a Rectangle.

If you look in the halloween section of the Simplicity pattern book, there is a series of like the "sexy witch" or "sexy little red riding hood." the pattern I have is Simplicity 4015, which should actually work well for what you are doing. Here's a link to the website so you can view it before you decide to use it or not:
http://www.simplicity.com/dv1_v4.cfm?design=4015
(never buy them full price or even sale price. Joanne's has them on sale ALL THE TIME for like $2!)
You may have to modify it a bit, and add a longer skirt for the petticoat, but that's basically it! Plus, I find it's really helpful to use a pattern, especially as a beginner, because they COME WITH DIRECTIONS. (yay!)
Which, I personally, love directions.
Hope this is at all helpful!
