I'm going as Amu from Shugo Chara at ACen. Sorry for the bad ref, its the best I can find. I have a suit jacket that is similar, however, it looks... strange with the outfit. The main problem is the collar, but her's also has a split up the back. I'm not going to butcher my good jacket for a costume either, I need that for real life. This is what I need it to basically look like

I've scoured the pattern books and websites, but can't find anything similar. Any help on a pattern for a one-button women's blazer jacket would be loved. Also, is linen difficult to work with? Or should I just stick with a nice cotton twill or similar?

IMO cotton twill will hang nicer. But yea go to the good will/salvationarmy/Thrift store. Get a jacket there, pinch the inside seems and stitch them like a cresent moon to get a more feminine waist line that fits you better.
