Hello! I'm making an Otonashi Saya cosplay for AX next year, and I'm kind of stuck at her sword. I know I can just use one of my own swords, but I want to make this cosplay as accurate as possible, plus I have nearly a year.

Now, if some of you don't know, Saya's sword has an odd shape to it. Here are a few links to what it looks like:

I was planning on making it out of balsa wood because it's supposedly light-weight yet sturdy. So I'm wondering, are there any other materials that I could use to make it out of or support it?

Balsa wood breaks nd dents pretty easy. I suggest pine because its both cheap and sturdy, although it will dent if you hit it hard enough...if you're going for accuracy, your real problem will probably start when you try to do the Japanese-Sword-Finish (note the edge of Saya's sword, with the wavy pattern on the end)...that part always kills me >.<" (my brother and I make wooden swords just so we can fight with each other)
