My three friends are going to Cosplay as Hikaru, Umi and Fuu from Magic Knights Rayearth. We know how to do most everything but for the big jewel thingies on the swords and armor.
Hikaru: http://mrtoga.org/~sabercat/Rayearth/il ... knis27.jpg
Umi: http://mrtoga.org/~sabercat/Rayearth/il ... knis28.jpg
Fuu: http://mrtoga.org/~sabercat/Rayearth/il ... knis29.jpg
See the big shiney jewel things on the armor and Fuu's sword? How am I gonna do those? I've heard resin(Or how ever it's spelt) is good and I know you need molds(Is this right?) for that and I can get that but anything else better than that or something more about resin? Der!

Haha I was going to say something to do with ornaments too~
One thing I did before, I don't know if you have huge ones but you know this little toys that come in those plastic containers? Haha, you can just cut the more cylindrical (is that a word?) part off so the circly part is left and just paint it and gloss over so its shiny~ Then you can like hot glue them to stuff, lol. Works for me
:P~

Yep, plastic ornaments get my vote too. If you get the transparent kind that open in 2 halves, paint the insides of them to be the color you want. You won't have to worry about the paint getting chipped or scraped while you wear the costume, and the outside of the "gems" stay nice & shiny.
There's a small resin kit at some craft stores; it's called Precious Impressions or Precious Memories...something like that - not to be confused with the kits that use plaster. Anyway, it's designed to take an imprint of your baby's hand or foot to make a little resin figurine so the kit includes everything you'd need for a small project. You could try it for the smaller gems that are smaller than ornaments yet still larger than most pre-made plastic gems. You could use various household objects to make the rounded impressions for the gems: ping pong ball, large beads, knobs, etc. I think it's a good way to use resin for the first time because everything is included, and it's relatively cheap. The one thing it doesn't have though are the dyes to make colored items.
